On the same day, during a visit to the Daejeon City Council press room, when asked about criticism regarding former emergency committee member Han Dong-hoon's candidacy for party leader, Jang said, "If we fail to gain public support and approach the people through change and reform over the next year, we will neither win the local elections and presidential election nor achieve regime re-creation."
He continued, "At this moment, before discussing responsibility or who is right or wrong, the criterion for selection should be who can best win the hearts of party members and the public and who can best lead the party's change and reform," adding, "If we fail to change and reform over the next year, our party's future may not exist."
He also pointed out, "The party convention is a festival for all party members, but within that, the image that the public desires must appear," and criticized, "Looking at the current convention, I personally have doubts about whether it is a convention that can reach the hearts of the public and whether it reflects what the public wants."
He further said, "When watching the party leadership candidates fight during the convention process, one can see how they would run the party if they become the party leader later. I have serious doubts about whether the current situation can create the party that the public wants and whether it can bring about the change and reform that party members desire."

Jang emphasized, "For Chungcheong not to be marginalized in politics, Chungcheong's influence must grow. Instead of relying on regional balancing here and there, we must win the hearts of party members and the public and pioneer our own path," adding, "I will work to strengthen Chungcheong's power and resolve Chungcheong's issues."
