What Did the Little Hands Farmers Harvest from Their Garden?... Farming by Silla University Lifelong Education Center Professors and Students
50? Life Redesign University Gifts Harvest Experience to Kindergarteners
Shilla University (President: Heo Namsik) Lifelong Education Center invited young children to become farmers in a garden where potatoes and tomatoes are grown.
The university announced on the 1st that children from neighboring daycare centers and kindergartens were invited to become "one-day farmers" and participate in a field trip to the garden cultivated by the faculty and students of the "50+ Life Redesign College," as well as experience harvesting crops.
The Lifelong Education Center at this university has been running the "50+ Life Redesign College" for six years, offering a "Practical Urban Agriculture Course" for the middle-aged group aged 50 to 64 who are preparing for their second act in life after retirement. Additionally, every year, the center practices talent donation and community love by providing garden experience activities and donating agricultural products to daycare centers and kindergartens.
On June 20 and 25, the faculty and students of the "50+ Life Redesign College" at Shilla University Lifelong Education Center provided local children with the opportunity to harvest crops such as potatoes and cherry tomatoes that they had cultivated as part of their practical training.
The faculty explained that, as the culture of playing with soil has largely disappeared and children are growing up on asphalt, the experience of harvesting crops offers a unique opportunity for children to feel the joy of harvesting.
A representative from the Shilla University Lifelong Education Center stated, "We are pleased that through this program, professors and students can donate crops grown with their own hands in the garden," and added, "We will continue to devote our efforts to contributing to the local community in various ways."
