Kolon Group Launches 'Kolon Spaceworks' by Integrating Composite Materials Business
Leap to a Special Material Solutions Company in Aerospace and More
Kolon Group announced on the 1st that it will newly launch 'Kolon Spaceworks' by concentrating the group's capabilities and resources related to composite materials.
Kolon Spaceworks is a company established by unifying the composite material businesses within the group through an inter-subsidiary transfer method, including Kolon Deck Composite, which operated in the aerospace and defense composite material sector, Kolon Glotech's lightweight vehicle parts, bulletproof special materials, hydrogen tank business, and Kolon ENP's lightweight materials for vehicle batteries.
The newly launched Kolon Spaceworks will be led by the newly appointed CEO, Executive Director Sanghyun Ahn, who previously served as the head of strategy at Kolon Corporation, alongside the existing CEO of Kolon Deck Composite, Wonseon Oh.

The company name embodies the meaning of providing solutions (Works) such as durability, rigidity, and eco-friendliness for products applied to various spaces (Space) ranging from the sea, land, and sky to outer space. Furthermore, it contains a vision to overcome the physical limitations impossible with a single material by combining various materials and securing technological superiority to enhance future habitation and mobility possibilities.
Composite materials are ultra-lightweight new materials that mix carbon fiber, glass fiber, and other polymer materials to significantly reduce weight, possessing characteristics that are stronger than steel but much lighter.
New CEO Sanghyun Ahn stated, “Our goal is to enable various forms of the future across a wide range of fields including energy, mobility, communication, and security, and to provide solutions needed wherever humans set foot. To establish technological leadership, we will continue to expand global human resources in research and development (R&D) and make continuous investments to secure competitive advantages.”
