O Gwang-rok, Gwangju Seo-gu Council Member, Requests Proactive Disaster Prevention Measures
At the 3rd plenary session of the 1st regular meeting of the 322nd session of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council, Oh Gwang-rok, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, proposed that the Seo-gu Office actively strive to establish proactive disaster prevention measures and suggested plans to revitalize Yangdong Market and Sangmu Friday Market during his 5-minute free speech.
Councilor Oh requested that proactive administration be carried out under the Administrative Enforcement Act regarding a house in Deokheung-dong exposed to collapse risks such as landslides but neglected by the landowner for years without preventive measures, and also urged the establishment of fundamental preventive measures for the habitual flood damage areas around Chipyeong-dong.
Furthermore, to ensure that Yangdong Market and Sangmu Friday Market are not neglected due to the upcoming complex shopping mall, he proposed ▲ the permanent opening of a night market on Old Road No. 6 within Yangdong Market and ▲ the creation of Sangmu Friday Market as a place where generations can come together through the development of cultural and experiential content. To this end, he suggested that the Seo-gu Office, merchants' association, resident communities, and Seo-gu Council jointly seek solutions.
Councilor Oh stated, “Disaster prevention must be done proactively, even excessively,” and added, “Given the unpredictable natural disasters amid the climate crisis, I request the Seo-gu Office’s active efforts in disaster prevention.”
