Daesan Shin Yong-ho Memorial Foundation Supports Transmission of Salted Fish Preservation by Master Cho Daeyong
National Heritage Promotion Agency and 49 Million Won Donation Agreement
The National Heritage Promotion Agency announced on the 27th that it has signed an agreement with the Daesan Shin Yong-ho Memorial Foundation to support the transmission activities of national intangible heritage. The foundation will donate 49 million won.
The first beneficiary is Jo Daeyong, the holder of the national intangible heritage craft of Yeomjang (簾匠). He will receive 24 million won over the next two years, with 1 million won per month. Yeomjang is a craftsman or artisan who makes bal, a type of traditional screen. Bal is an essential item in the traditional Korean house, Hanok. It blocks sunlight while allowing air to pass through. Master Jo Daeyong was recognized as a holder in 2001 and has been dedicated to preserving and transmitting traditional techniques.

The foundation will also support 25 million won for projects that document intangible heritage transmission activities. Since 2007, it has signed agreements to support holders of national intangible heritage such as Hanji makers, Somokjang (woodworkers), Gakjajang (engravers), and their transmission activities.
