Pyeongtaek City to Recruit 'Alley-type Shopping Districts' Until the 19th of Next Month
Relaxation of Store Number Criteria Within a Certain Area
Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it will recruit 'Alley-type Shopping Districts' to revitalize neighborhood commercial areas from the 24th of this month until the 19th of next month.
Once designated as an Alley-type Shopping District, stores within the commercial area will be able to accept Onnuri gift certificates and qualify to participate in facility and management modernization projects.
Earlier, at the end of last year, Pyeongtaek City amended the 'Ordinance for the Promotion of Traditional Markets and Shopping Districts' to relax the requirements for designation as an Alley-type Shopping District. Previously, designation was possible if there were 30 or more small business stores concentrated within an area of 2,000㎡ or less, but the revised ordinance relaxed the store count criteria to 25 or more in commercial zones and 20 or more outside commercial zones within the same area.
Pyeongtaek City plans to invigorate the stagnant commercial areas and establish a continuous support system by expanding the designation of Alley-type Shopping Districts. To this end, the city will also hold outreach briefing sessions for merchant associations wishing to apply for Alley-type Shopping District designation.
