Blind tennis began when Miyoshi Takei (武井?良), a visually impaired person from Japan, developed a special ball that makes sound. It has since spread to more than 20 countries, including Korea, China, Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
Professor Jeong Jin-ja from the Department of Special Education explained, "Blind tennis is played on a court about 5 meters shorter than regular tennis courts, using a sponge ball with a diameter of 9 cm that contains beads to produce sound. Players rely on the sound of the ball during the game. While regular tennis allows the ball to bounce once, blind tennis rules vary by visual classification: B1 and B2 players can let the ball bounce up to three times, B3 players up to two times, and Open category players only once."
