Specialized Programs Focused on Basic Science Field Planned
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) held a groundbreaking ceremony on the 19th for the district's second education support center, the 2nd Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center (hereinafter referred to as the 2nd Center).
The 2nd Center is expected to embody Jungnang-gu's educational philosophy and establish itself as a hub for local education, following the opening of the 1st Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center in Sangbong-dong in 2021, which was the largest of its kind among autonomous districts.
With a total floor area of 1,462㎡ and spanning from one basement level to seven above-ground floors, the center is planned to be located in Myeonmok-dong, with completion targeted for the second half of 2025. Once established, Jungnang-gu will be the only autonomous district in Seoul to directly operate two education support centers.
The center will feature various facilities including a book caf?, lounge, youth community space, self-directed learning rooms, program operation rooms, and multipurpose rooms.
As a specialized program unique to the 2nd Center, a basic science convergence research lab will also be established. To complement areas that are difficult to access through public education and to innovatively improve the local educational environment, programs focusing on basic science fields such as physics, chemistry, and biology will be operated.
Additionally, inheriting the educational spirit of Sofa Bang Jeong-hwan, the center plans to provide a variety of educational programs including college entrance and career guidance, parent education, and self-directed learning tailored to the needs of students and parents.
The groundbreaking ceremony on the 19th was attended by Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi, local elementary, middle, and high school principals, parents, school operation committee chairs, and Bang Yeol, chairman of the Onyang Bang Clan Central Association, adding significance to the event.
Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi stated, “Education is a long-term plan that directly relates to the future of Jungnang, so we are investing generously and dedicating ourselves to creating the best public education environment. We expect the 2nd Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center to play a pivotal role in strengthening Jungnang as an educational city, serving as a place of learning where not only students but also parents can grow together.”
