The Deputy Mayor for Political Affairs is a position that assists the Mayor by consulting and coordinating with the National Assembly, Seoul Metropolitan Council, media, political parties, and Seoul City affairs. It is a vice-ministerial political position appointed by the Mayor.

Born in 1982, nominee Kim is a former student council president at Kyung Hee University. He served as a spokesperson for President Yoon Seok-yeol's 2022 presidential campaign and was elected as a Supreme Council Member at last year's People Power Party convention. He ran as the People Power Party candidate for Seoul Gwangjin-gap in the 21st and 22nd general elections but was defeated.
