Geochang County Holds On-site Provincial Residents' Budget School ... Strengthening Expertise
Understanding the Role of the Resident Participatory Budget Committee
Geochang County, Gyeongsangnam-do, announced on the 17th that the "2024 Visiting Provincial Residents' Budget School" was held at the Geochang-eup Administrative Welfare Center, with more than 20 members of the Geochang County Residents' Participatory Budget Committee in attendance, hosted by Gyeongsangnam-do.
The Visiting Provincial Residents' Budget School is an annual initiative by Gyeongsangnam-do aimed at introducing the residents' participatory budget system to provincial residents, identifying agenda items for resident-proposed projects, and guiding them through the process of submitting proposals.
This year's Geochang County Residents' Budget School was conducted for the members of the Residents' Participatory Budget Committee to help them understand the committee's role, strengthen their capacity to review resident-proposed projects, and enhance the fairness and professionalism of the deliberation process.
In particular, Lee Hanjun, a lecturer from Holgaboon Research Institute, who delivered a special lecture, received an enthusiastic response from the participants by sharing discussions and ideas about the operation process in Geochang County to help identify effective projects for the Gyeongsangnam-do residents' proposal contest.
A committee member who attended the training said, "Through this training, I was able to fully understand the role and system of the Residents' Participatory Budget Committee," adding, "I will do my best as a committee member to ensure good projects can be realized through the participatory budget."
Meanwhile, Geochang County has completed the resident proposal contest and survey for the 2025 budget planning, and the valuable opinions received from residents will undergo feasibility reviews by relevant departments and deliberation by the Residents' Participatory Budget Committee, as part of the necessary procedures for next year's budget planning.
