Seoul Metropolitan Council Chairman Kim Hyun-gi Attends '2024 Blood Donor Day Ceremony'
Chairman Kim: "Blood donation is irreplaceable even with medical advances, thanks to all participating citizens"
Kim Hyun-gi, Chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, attended the ‘2024 Blood Donor Day Ceremony’ held at Gwanghwamun Square Playground on the 14th and expressed gratitude to the citizens participating in blood donation.
Chairman Kim said, “No matter how advanced medicine becomes, nothing can replace blood donation,” and added, “I thank the citizens and organizations who actively participate in blood donation to save precious lives.”
Chairman Kim shared his past experience, saying, “In the 1970s, as a student, I used the 4·19 Library next to Seodaemun Red Cross Hospital, where I realized the importance and meaning of blood donation. In the 1980s, I was deeply moved by the slogan written at the Red Cross headquarters near my workplace, ‘Give Blood, Save Life!’ and participated in blood donation.”
He also said, “Now, seeing the blood donation staff rushing out early in the morning and returning in the evening at the Red Cross Blood Center near my residence, I am always grateful for the nobility of blood donation and the hard work of the staff,” emphasizing that participating citizens are true patriots.
Blood Donor Day is a global legal commemorative day established in 2004 to raise awareness of the importance of blood donation and to express gratitude and respect to those who participate. This year marks its 21st anniversary.
The ceremony was attended by Kim Cheol-soo, President of the Korean Red Cross; Oh Se-hoon, Mayor of Seoul; Cho Hee-yeon, Superintendent of Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education; as well as Nam Chang-jin, Vice Chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Council; Choi Ho-jung, Floor Leader; Kang Seok-joo, Chair of the Health and Welfare Committee; Assembly members Ok Jae-neun, Kim Hye-young, Lee Sae-nal, Kim Hyung-jae, Ko Kwang-min, and Park Young-han.
Awards for blood donation merit, a blood donation contest award ceremony, and blood donation promotion and experience booths were held.
