Raising awareness of elder abuse, increasing social interest and respect for the elderly
On the afternoon of the 14th at 2 PM, Busan City will hold the "8th Elder Abuse Prevention Day Commemoration Event" at the main auditorium of City Hall.
This event is hosted by the city and organized by the Busan Eastern, Western, and Central Elder Protection Agencies.
This event has been held annually since 2017 to improve the unfair treatment of the elderly and to raise social awareness about the seriousness of elder abuse.
Marking its 8th year, this year's event features various programs aimed at creating a social atmosphere that promotes the prevention of elder abuse and the protection of elderly rights and interests.
The event will be attended by over 680 people, including the Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs, local seniors, related institution workers, and citizens. The program will include an awards ceremony for distinguished individuals and a theatrical performance on the theme of "filial piety."
First, an awards ceremony will be held for outstanding individuals, including civil servants and related institution workers who have contributed to the promotion of elderly rights.
One civil servant who contributed to the promotion of elderly rights will receive a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare, and four workers who have contributed to the development of projects such as protection, counseling, and promotion for abused elderly will receive a commendation from the Mayor of Busan.
Following this, a theatrical performance on the themes of restoring family love and filial piety will take place. Additionally, as a side event, a photo and cartoon exhibition aimed at improving perceptions of the elderly will be held in front of the main conference room at City Hall.
The performance is expected to provide a meaningful opportunity to reflect once again on love and filial duty toward family members, whose importance is often forgotten due to their close presence.
The photo and cartoon exhibition will feature ten photos aimed at improving perceptions of the elderly, as well as cartoons related to the prevention of elder abuse.
Lee Joonseung, Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs, said, "I hope today's event will serve as an opportunity to express our gratitude to the seniors who are the roots and driving force of our society, and to increase our attention to the elderly around us. The city will continue to do its best to ensure that seniors can enjoy a healthy and vibrant later life."
