Former U.S. President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump made a spectacular 'comeback' to the federal Capitol on the 13th (local time), more than three years after the January 6 Capitol riot.
With about five months left until the November presidential election, it appeared as if the Republican Party had effectively become the 'Trump Party,' receiving welcomes not only from the House but also from the Senate. Furthermore, major company CEOs lined up to show support, reaffirming the enhanced political stature of former President Trump.

Before his Capitol comeback, former President Trump attended an event hosted by the 'Business Roundtable,' an organization promoting business-friendly policies.
The Business Roundtable is a council composed of CEOs from the top 200 U.S. corporations, representing corporate interests. The combined market capitalization of its member companies accounts for 20% of all U.S. companies, and it was established in 1972. Along with the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, it is one of the most influential lobbying groups in the United States. It has a similar character to Korea's Korea Economic Organization Association (HanKyungHyup).
John Harper, CEO of Alcoa, a leading American aluminum producer, and Fred Borch, CEO of General Electric (GE), a representative American conglomerate, led its founding.
Initially, the Business Roundtable served as an organization to reduce public hostility toward large U.S. corporations and to represent corporate interests through dialogue with the government. Since the 1980s, the Business Roundtable has actively lobbied not only the U.S. government but also international organizations such as the World Trade Organization (WTO), growing into a leading U.S. interest group. While it generally leans toward the market-friendly Republican Party, it maintains friendly relations with the Democratic Party through appropriate lobbying activities.
According to NBC and others, at least 80 CEOs attended the Business Roundtable event, including Jamie Dimon, Chairman of JPMorgan Chase; Jane Fraser, CEO of Citigroup; Brian Moynihan, CEO of Bank of America; and Tim Cook, CEO of Apple.
At the event, former President Trump reportedly expressed his tax-cut pledge, including lowering the federal corporate tax rate from 21% to 20%, along with a stance on deregulation.

Former President Trump is engaged in a neck-and-neck race against President Joe Biden in various polls and holds a slim lead in battleground states that will decide the election outcome.
The New York Times (NYT) described the meeting between former President Trump and Republican members of the House and Senate as "a stark example of how organizations that still dislike him are reacting to the possibility of Trump returning to the White House."
The Biden administration and the Democratic Party criticized former President Trump's visit to Washington, D.C., linking it to the January 6 Capitol riot.
