Assemblywoman Kim Nam-hee "Caregivers Should Also Be Covered by Industrial Accident Insurance"... Bill Proposed
Kim Nam-hee, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, proposed the "Caregiver Industrial Accident Insurance Application Act" as her first bill. In this regard, Rep. Kim held a press conference at the National Assembly on the morning of December 12 and said, "Without safe caregiving labor, the safety of patients cannot be guaranteed," adding, "It is time for the National Assembly to respond to the desperate cries of caregivers who have been demanding industrial accident insurance coverage for the past 10 years." The bill aims to socially protect caregivers by preparing for accidents and infections that may occur while caring for patients.

Rep. Kim created this bill while working as a clinical professor at Seoul National University Law School in 2022. She stated, "I researched ways to apply industrial accident insurance to caregivers together with Dr. Nam Woo-geun of the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs," and added, "I feel deeply moved to be able to propose this bill." She also said, "In Korea, caregivers do not have a specific employer, so they are not protected under labor laws," and "Taiwan, which operates a caregiving system similar to Korea's, has the government support industrial accident insurance."
