Dongnam Regional Nuclear Medical Center Wins 'Outstanding Presentation Award' at Korean Association for Radiation Protection Conference
Excellence Recognized Through Design and Performance Evaluation of Gamma Ray Beam Controller
Additional Acquisition of International Standard Radiation Measurement and Calibration Technology
Kyeyonguk, a researcher from the Radiation Dose Evaluation Research Team at the Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences (Director: Lee Changhun), recently received the Excellent Presentation Award at the Spring Conference of the Korean Association for Radiation Protection held at Hotel Hyundai by Lahan in Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do, for his study on the precise measurement of gamma rays.
This research, titled "Characteristics assessment of radiation field and design of collimator within ISO standard for 137Cs irradiator by Monte Carlo simulation," was co-authored by corresponding author Kang Youngrok and first author Kyeyonguk. The study was recognized for its excellence in gamma radiation field research.
The research center at the Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences was accredited as a KOLAS-certified calibration institution by the Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme in 2014 and has been actively operating as an accredited calibration and testing institution for radiation and radioactivity measurements.
The Radiation Dose Evaluation Research Team has continuously conducted studies on gamma radiation fields that comply with international standards to enhance the reliability of 137Cs gamma irradiation and expand the scope of KOLAS-certified calibration services. Through Monte Carlo simulation, the team developed a beam collimator that meets the performance requirements of the ISO 4037 international standard for gamma radiation fields.
This research was carried out as part of the government-funded project "Research on Radiation Effects and Safety Dose Assessment" (Principal Investigator: Kang Youngrok) at the Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences.
