Gwangju Nam-gu Supports Disabled Persons with Annual 350,000 KRW 'Lifelong Education Voucher'
Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is set to actively promote a project that provides lifelong education vouchers worth 350,000 KRW per person to 50 disabled individuals in the district to guarantee lifelong learning opportunities for people with disabilities.
On the 10th, Nam-gu announced, "We have been selected in the '2024 Disabled Lifelong Education Voucher Support Project' contest conducted by the Ministry of Education," and added, "To improve the quality of life and support the independence of disabled residents through lifelong education, applications for lifelong education vouchers will be accepted from the 17th of this month until July 19."
The current government has designated the lifelong education voucher support project as a national education policy task to provide lifelong learning opportunities to all citizens, gradually expanding the voucher support target from low-income groups to all citizens.
In particular, the government has improved the project implementation method by converting the disabled lifelong education voucher support project, which was previously directly managed by the Ministry of Education, into a nationwide local government contest project starting this year, allowing selected local governments to provide customized support based on regional conditions.
Nam-gu secured project funds, including national subsidies, by participating in the contest to provide lifelong education benefits to more disabled residents in the district. This year, with a total budget of 17.5 million KRW including district funds, the district plans to support 50 disabled individuals with lifelong education vouchers.
The scale of 50 supported individuals is significantly higher compared to last year when the Ministry of Education supported 33 disabled individuals across five autonomous districts in the Gwangju area with lifelong education vouchers.
The eligibility for the disabled lifelong education voucher support is registered disabled persons aged 19 or older as of the application date.
However, disabled individuals who have already benefited from the general lifelong education voucher support project for low-income groups conducted earlier this year, and those receiving national scholarships under the Scholarship Foundation Act, are excluded from applying due to overlapping benefits.
Applications will be accepted from July 17 to July 19 through the Bojogeum24 website or mobile app. Disabled individuals selected as beneficiaries will be issued a Lifelong Education Hope Card.
This card can be used to pay for course fees and textbook costs at lifelong education institutions registered on the lifelong education voucher website nationwide, and the usage period is until November 30 of this year.
If the card is not issued or used within the deadline, participation in next year’s support program may be restricted.
