Lee Manhee of People Power Party Appointed as Chairman of Disaster and Safety Special Committee... "Will Focus on Expanding Prevention Infrastructure"
Member of the National Assembly Lee Manhee (Gyeongbuk Yeongcheon and Cheongdo) has been appointed as the chairman of the People Power Party Special Committee on Disaster and Safety.
As the formation of the 22nd National Assembly has been delayed, the People Power Party has launched a total of 14 special committees simultaneously to address urgent livelihood issues and realize the core policy tasks of the Yoon Sukyeol administration. Among these, Lee Manhee has been designated as the chairman of the Special Committee on Disaster and Safety.
The People Power Party Special Committee on Disaster and Safety, led by Chairman Lee Manhee, was established to address policy blind spots in protecting the precious lives and property of the people by reviewing prevention and response systems for a wide range of disasters and accidents, from natural disasters such as fires, wildfires, and typhoons to social disasters.
During the 21st National Assembly, Lee Manhee served as the People Power Party secretary of the Public Administration and Security Committee, senior vice chairman of the party’s Policy Committee, and chairman of the Special Committee on the Itaewon Accident Investigation and Safety Measures. He has been highly regarded within the party for his in-depth policy expertise and outstanding leadership in national disaster management systems.
As his first move as chairman of the Special Committee on Disaster and Safety, Lee Manhee recently led the proposal of a partial amendment to the Civil Defense Basic Act, which provides a legal basis for supporting victims affected by the recent mass release of “waste balloons” from North Korea. Going forward, he plans to visit local sites and hold meetings with committee members to pursue field-oriented policy activities in earnest.
Lee Manhee stated, “I feel a great sense of responsibility in taking on a role that safeguards the precious daily lives of our citizens,” adding, “Together with my fellow lawmakers and top experts in the field of disaster and safety, I will meticulously review institutional shortcomings and practical improvement measures with a strong sense of duty.”
He continued, “I will continue to do my utmost to ensure that the citizens of Yeongcheon, Cheongdo, and all the people of the Republic of Korea can live safe and comfortable lives, including taking the lead in expanding disaster prevention and response infrastructure in regions such as Daegu and Gyeongbuk.”
