The agreement includes sharing various garden materials and technical information to activate the garden industry culture, supporting and monitoring specialized consulting for local and private gardens, and academic and human exchanges for garden development and specialization.
It also commits to efforts to discover joint garden projects and create collaborative achievements.
Starting this year, the city plans to cooperate with the Korea Arboretum and Garden Management Institute in hosting garden-related festivals organized by Jeongeup City, such as the Gujeolcho Flower Festival.
Mayor Lee Hak-su said, “With the possibility of intensive and professional consulting and monitoring, Jeongeup’s local and private gardens will be reborn as more refined gardens, and furthermore, this will serve as an opportunity to create a sustainable green environment and promote the garden industry’s advancement. We will work closely together to actively promote various projects that have a positive impact on the local community and nationwide.”
Chairman Ryu Kwang-su of the Korea Arboretum and Garden Management Institute also stated, “Through this agreement, we will open a new chapter in the garden industry and strive to revitalize garden culture.”
Currently, Jeongeup City operates three private gardens (Deulkkot Madang, Hwangtohyeon Dawon, and Obje), including the ‘Gujeolcho Local Garden,’ which is registered as Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province’s first local garden.
The Korea Arboretum and Garden Management Institute is a public institution affiliated with the Korea Forest Service, responsible for the establishment and management of national arboretums such as Sejong Arboretum and Baekdudaegan Arboretum, as well as consulting and monitoring local gardens nationwide. It is a specialized public institution related to arboretums and gardens in Korea.
