Motorcycle Rider Driving Wrong Way on Highway at Midnight Dies in Collision
A motorcyclist driving in the wrong direction on a highway late at night died after colliding head-on with an oncoming passenger car.
According to the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency Highway Patrol on the 3rd, at around 11:33 p.m. on the 2nd, a motorcycle driven by a man in his 60s, identified as A, crashed head-on with an oncoming passenger car near Jinju Service Area at the 72.2km point of the Namhae Expressway toward Busan.
A, who was driving in the wrong direction in the first lane of the four-lane highway, was thrown onto the opposite lane by the impact of the crash and was struck and killed by another passenger car traveling in the first lane.
Due to the aftermath of the accident, debris from the vehicles damaged the windshields and other parts of two other passenger cars, resulting in a total of three vehicles being damaged.
The police investigation revealed that A had entered the highway via the Munsan Interchange (IC) about 4km before the accident site and suddenly made a U-turn, driving in the wrong direction.
The police stated that motorcycles are not permitted on expressways, but believe A entered via the Hi-Pass entrance and are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident by questioning witnesses and others involved.
