The People Power Party is expected to accelerate efforts by launching a special committee to amend the party constitution and regulations for a swift revision of the party convention rules, aiming for a party convention at the end of July.
On the 3rd, the People Power Party Emergency Response Committee held a meeting at the Yeouido party headquarters in Seoul and effectively confirmed the timing of the party convention for the end of July. Hwang Woo-yeo, chairman of the People Power Party Emergency Response Committee, said, "It has been about three weeks since the Emergency Response Committee was first launched on May 13. We are trying to finish the party convention before the (Paris) Olympic Games start if possible," adding, "To do so, we need to use the limited remaining time efficiently, and I hope the entire party will work together with full effort."
The Olympics referred to by Chairman Hwang is the Paris Olympics, scheduled to open on the 26th of next month. Chairman Hwang added, "I hope excellent candidates will come forward, and everyone should unite to reach a single conclusion on the election method," and "Through joint debates and vision presentations, we want to make it a festive event enjoyed together with the public."
On the same day, the People Power Party launched a special committee for amending the party constitution and regulations. It is expected to focus on discussions such as the current rule of selecting 100% of party members and changing the single leadership system by separating the election of the party leader and supreme council members. Kwak Kyu-taek, senior spokesperson of the People Power Party, explained at a briefing after the meeting, "The special committee for amending the party constitution and regulations is expected to handle parts related to the primary election rules," and "The committee was formed to promptly amend any parts of the party constitution and regulations related to the primary election." Former lawmaker Yeo Sang-gyu was appointed as chairman, and lawmakers Choi Hyung-doo, Park Hyung-soo, Lee Dal-hee, party branch chairman Oh Shin-hwan, former party branch chairman Kim Beom-soo, and Professor Jeong Hee-ok of Myongji University’s Department of Political Science and Diplomacy were appointed as members.

The Election Commission will handle related tasks such as candidate registration, promotion, and debates. Former lawmaker Seo Byung-soo was appointed as chairman, and Secretary-General Sung Il-jong was appointed as vice chairman. The commission consists of nine members, including party insiders Park Jong-jin, Yang Jong-a, Lee Jae-young, Lee Hyung-seop, Lee Seung-hwan, Kim Soo-min, Kwak Kwan-yong, and external experts such as political commentator Kim Yeon-joo and lawyer Kang Jeon-ae.
