Suspicion of Proxy Surgery by Salesperson... Joint Specialist Hospital Director and Others Indicted Without Detention
A Total of 10 People Charged with Violations of the Medical Service Act
Officials from Yonsei Sarang Hospital, suspected of involving medical device company employees in patient surgeries in so-called 'proxy surgeries,' have been indicted.
According to the legal community on the 31st, the Food and Drug Crime Investigation Division of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Song Myeong-seop) indicted 10 individuals, including hospital director Mr. A, orthopedic medical staff, and medical device company employees, without detention on charges of violating the Medical Service Act on the 29th.
Mr. A is suspected of involving sales representatives from medical device companies, such as those dealing with artificial joints and cartilage treatments, in surgeries. The orthopedic medical staff are under investigation for falsifying surgical records to make it appear as though Mr. A performed the surgeries until completion.

Earlier, the police launched an investigation based on intelligence related to proxy surgeries, and in April 2022, the civic group People's Livelihood Countermeasures Committee filed a complaint against Mr. A and others with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.
