NH Nonghyup·Asia Economy Rookie Tennis Festival... Meet in Goyang on the 8th-9th
It is the season of the Roland Garros (French Open). The French Open is the only Grand Slam tennis tournament held on clay courts. This year’s French Open began on the 20th of last month, with the main draw matches starting on the 26th. The tournament will conclude with the women’s singles final on the 8th and the men’s singles final on the 9th. The 8th and 9th, when the men’s and women’s singles finals take place, also coincide with the “2024 NH Nonghyup Bank·Asia Economy All-One Rookie Tennis Festival” held at the Nonghyup University Tennis Courts in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.
The U.S. online betting company DraftKings has named Carlos Alcaraz (21, Spain), ranked world No. 3, as the favorite to win the men’s singles title at this year’s French Open. His odds are +260, meaning a bettor would win 2.6 times their stake if Alcaraz wins. World No. 1 Novak Djokovic (37, Serbia) follows with odds of +330.
Djokovic and Alcaraz can only face each other if they both reach the final. They have met five times so far on the ATP Tour, with Djokovic narrowly leading 3-2. They have played twice on hard courts, both won by Djokovic. On grass courts, they have met once, with Alcaraz winning. On clay courts, like at the French Open, they have met twice and split the matches evenly. One of those clay court matches was last year’s French Open semifinal, where Djokovic won 3-1 (6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1).
In the women’s singles, Iga ?wi?tek (23, Poland) is considered the favorite with odds of -165. ?wi?tek is aiming for her third consecutive French Open title and her fourth overall victory at the tournament.
Among Korean players, Kwon Soon-woo was the only one to qualify for the singles main draw. Kwon won all three qualifying matches to enter the main draw and passed the first round, but was eliminated in the second round after losing 1-3 (4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 3-6) to world No. 28 Sebastian Korda (24, USA).
Asia Economy hopes that one day Korean players will be able to compete on higher stages and aim for Grand Slam titles. To support this vision, we are preparing the “2024 NH Nonghyup Bank·Asia Economy All-One Rookie Tennis Festival.” This is an amateur tennis tournament where tennis-loving players in their 20s and 30s compete and build friendships. Ninety-six men’s and women’s teams will compete, and the winning team will receive the special privilege of watching the ATP 1000 Shanghai Masters.
