Seongdong-gu Provides On-site CPR Training at Apartment Complexes
Every Saturday in June, experts provide disaster safety training including fire extinguisher use, fire evacuation, and escape device experience... Enhancing residents' accessibility to raise awareness of disaster preparedness and safety
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) is conducting a "Visiting Apartment Disaster Safety Experience Education" to ensure residents can live safely from fires, disasters, and other emergencies.
As of 2022 (Statistics Korea Housing Census), the apartment housing rate in Seongdong-gu is 88%, making apartments the typical residential form in Seongdong-gu.
Accordingly, the district has launched disaster safety experience education that directly visits apartment complexes to promote safe communal living for residents. Seongdong-gu is the first autonomous district in Seoul to provide safety experience education specifically for apartment residents.
The education targets 10 apartment complexes selected through a prior demand survey (5 in the first half and 5 in the second half of the year). Experts visit in person to conduct experiential disaster education, teaching residents how to properly respond to emergencies such as fires and various disasters that may occur in daily life.
Following a pilot operation last year with 8 apartment complexes, which saw high participation and positive responses from residents, this year the education will be held 5 times each in the first and second halves of the year.
Professional instructors from the safety education organization "Haengbokhan Usan" will be assigned by specialty. Residents will directly participate in activities such as ▲fire extinguisher usage ▲cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training ▲fire preparedness maze experience ▲escape device experience, providing opportunities to learn disaster response skills and raise awareness of the importance of disaster preparedness and safety consciousness.
The education will be held throughout June, every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at designated locations within apartment complexes, aiming to improve convenience for residents who previously faced accessibility challenges in receiving safety education.
Seongdong-gu is also promoting various community-based projects to enhance the quality of life and convenience for apartment residents, including a visiting bicycle repair center, visiting furniture repair service, and installation of paper pack-only collection bins.
