"Creating Digital Twins for Airport Facility Management"…Korea Airports Corporation Obtains Patent
Implementing and Managing Gimpo Airport in Virtual Space
Korea Airports Corporation has become the first in the country to obtain a patent for a method of digitally modeling and managing airport facilities.
On the 30th, Korea Airports Corporation announced that it had acquired a patent on the 24th for the "Integrated Facility Management Method and Device Based on Digital Twin." Digital twin is a technology that replicates real-world objects exactly on a computer.
This patent involves a technology that uses digital twin data created through the Building Information Modeling (BIM) method to determine whether quality standards such as relevant regulations and user requirements are met, and then registers the data in a Common Data Environment (CDE). This is to prevent errors caused by discrepancies between the actual building and the building information on the digital twin.
The corporation explained that by developing a "logical rule set," it automated data quality review, resolving errors and issues associated with the previous manual quality checks.
Through this patent acquisition, the corporation plans to actively pursue the digital management transition of nationwide airport facilities, BIM project management for new airport construction, and collaborative projects to establish BIM platforms with other organizations.
