Yeosu-si Myodo-dong Declares 'War on Mosquitoes'
Over 650 Residents and Businesses Participate
Major Disinfection Operation Mobilizing 6 Drones and Disinfection Vehicles
Yeosu City in Jeollanam-do announced that Myeodo-dong (Dongjang Seo Jeong-su) will conduct a large-scale joint public-private mosquito (pest) control operation on the 31st, as residents have been increasingly affected by mosquitoes every year, aiming to eradicate mosquitoes in Myeodo.
This pest control operation will involve about 450 residents from local organizations, the city health center, Yeosu Saemaeul Association, GS Caltex Co., Ltd., LG Chem Ltd., SK E&S Gwangyang Power Plant, Drone World, Samnam Petrochemical Co., Ltd., Korea Coast Guard Education Center, POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks, and Hanyang Co., Ltd., with a total participation of approximately 650 people.
At 10 a.m. on the day, residents will apply larvicides to places where larvae can breed, such as household drains and septic tanks, while participants from local organizations and companies will wear protective gear such as pest control suits and spray insecticides one by one in vulnerable areas.
In addition to manual work, six drones and pest control vehicles will be mobilized to carry out pest control throughout Myeodo, including residential alleys, fields, and reclaimed land. On the same day, in celebration of ‘Sea Day,’ coastal cleanup activities will also be conducted.
