Jeju Coast Guard Operates 'Coastal Safety Class' at Gwangyang Elementary School
Jeju Coast Guard Station (Chief So Byung-yong) announced on the 29th that it operated a visiting ‘Coastal Safety Classroom’ for 1st and 2nd graders at Gwangyang Elementary School the previous day to prevent water play safety accidents during the summer season.
So Byung-yong, Chief of Jeju Coast Guard, conducted education on preventing water play safety accidents for 1st and 2nd graders at Gwangyang Elementary School on the 28th.

This program was conducted as part of proactive administration to support the care gap for lower-grade students by a national institution and to spread marine safety culture such as water play safety rules.
Neulbom School is a comprehensive educational program centered around the school outside of regular classes, linking various educational resources from the school and local community to support students’ growth and development. In Jeju City, it is operated in 35 schools including Gwangyang Elementary School.
On that day, So Byung-yong, Chief of Jeju Coast Guard Station, who served as a one-day instructor, conducted education to prevent water play safety accidents ahead of the summer peak season by using audiovisual materials such as animations suitable for the level of 1st and 2nd grade students, introducing the Coast Guard, water play safety rules, coastal accident response methods, and how to wear life jackets.
So Byung-yong, Chief of Jeju Coast Guard Station, said, “I hope Neulbom School, which is being promoted to overcome low birth rates by alleviating parenting burdens on parents, will become more active, and I hope this special lecture will be helpful.”
He added, “Through the Coastal Safety Classroom, I hope that correct water play safety rules such as wearing life jackets will become second nature from childhood so that children can safely enjoy water play.”
