Government Conducts Special Inspection on African Swine Fever Prevention and Control in Areas Adjacent to Cheorwon
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for African Swine Fever (ASF) announced on the 28th that, due to the increased risk of additional outbreaks following the occurrence at a farm in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province on the 21st, a joint government special inspection will be conducted from the 29th to the 31st targeting four adjacent cities and counties in Cheorwon-gun where ASF outbreaks are a concern.
This inspection will be carried out jointly by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and the Ministry of Environment, forming two inspection teams consisting of six members, targeting the border areas of Cheorwon: Paju, Yeoncheon, Pocheon (Gyeonggi Province), and Hwacheon (Gangwon Province).
The inspection teams will check the quarantine management status including surveillance, inspection, disinfection support for pig farms within the jurisdiction of the respective cities and counties, operation of key disinfection facilities, installation and operation of farm quarantine and disinfection facilities, compliance with quarantine rules, adherence to hunters’ quarantine guidelines, and measures to prevent spread such as storage and disposal of wild boar carcasses. Any deficiencies found will be immediately corrected and supplemented, and farms violating regulations will be strictly dealt with through administrative measures.

The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters stated, "Following the outbreak of African Swine Fever at pig farms in Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon Province, it is necessary to strengthen inspections and raise awareness in high-risk areas such as border regions, and to implement rigorous quarantine management." They urged pig farmers to maintain vigilance regarding biosecurity and to strictly follow quarantine rules with the awareness that the disease can enter their farms at any time.
