Weekend (24~26) Theater Attendance Reaches 1,140,037 Visitors
The movie 'Furiosa: Mad Max Saga' drew about 430,000 viewers in its opening weekend, debuting at number one at the box office.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticketing system on the 27th, over the past weekend (24th-26th), 'Furiosa: Mad Max Saga' (directed by George Miller) attracted 429,320 viewers, securing the top spot at the box office. It held a revenue share of 39.5%. Since its release on the 22nd, the film has accumulated a total audience of 564,714.
The film depicts Furiosa, who is brutally cast into a desolate world 45 years after the collapse of civilization, embarking on a journey risking everything to return to her hometown. It is a prequel to 'Mad Max: Fury Road' (2015), which drew 3.93 million viewers domestically, covering events that take place earlier in the timeline.
Ma Dong-seok's starring film 'The Outlaws 4' (directed by Heo Myeong-haeng) dropped to second place with 219,081 viewers. Released on April 24th, it became the second film this year to surpass 10 million viewers, reaching a cumulative total of 11,045,999 by the weekend. The film 'She Died' (directed by Kim Se-hwi), starring Byun Yo-han and Shin Hye-sun, ranked third with 202,223 viewers.

Although the Hollywood film 'Furiosa' dethroned 'The Outlaws 4', which had held the box office top spot for over a month, this is unlikely to last long. Several Korean films starring popular actors are set to be released next month. 'The Architect' (directed by Lee Yo-seop), starring Kang Dong-won, opening on the 29th, is currently leading real-time reservation rates at 33.9%. As a result, 'Furiosa' dropped to second place with 18.9%. Following 'The Architect', 'Wonderland' (directed by Kim Tae-yong) will open on June 5th, 'Hijacking' (directed by Kim Seong-han) on June 21st, and 'Handsome Size' (directed by Nam Dong-hyeop) on June 26th. Attention is focused on whether the theater atmosphere, which saw two films surpass 10 million viewers in the first half of this year, will continue.
