Promotion of Greenhouse Gas Emission Trading System and Encouragement of Energy Saving to Prepare for Heatwaves Caused by Climate Change
The Seoul Agro-Fisheries & Food Corporation (President Moon Young-pyo) conducted a summer energy-saving campaign at Garak Market on the 22nd to reduce energy consumption in response to the greenhouse gas emissions trading system and the anticipated early heatwave caused by climate change, through a joint effort between the corporation and its subsidiaries.
About 30 participants from the subsidiaries and the corporation visited shops within the market during this energy-saving campaign to promote energy-saving measures aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions at Garak Market. They guided shop owners to turn off unused lighting and heating devices to prevent safety accidents and save energy.

Lim Chang-soo, Technical Director of the Construction Safety Headquarters, stated, “Garak Market is a facility subject to greenhouse gas emissions allowances. The more individual energy consumption by distributors, the more carbon emission permits must be purchased in addition to electricity fees, which increases additional management costs.” He added, “Both our corporation and the distributors should strive for voluntary energy-saving activities.”
