Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) is expanding the installation of unmanned traffic enforcement devices within school zones to ensure a safe walking environment for children.

Currently, a total of 47 unmanned traffic enforcement devices have been installed in Dongjak-gu's school zones. To strengthen traffic safety, a budget of 105 million KRW was secured for this project.

The district conducted a preliminary demand survey for areas requiring unmanned traffic enforcement devices within school zones. In March of this year, they held consultations and on-site inspections with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, the Road Traffic Authority, and installation companies to finalize the installation locations.

The newly selected installation sites include three locations: ▲ Sinsangdo Elementary School (Sangdo-dong 208-5), ▲ Myeongsu Kindergarten (Heukseok-dong 177-8), and ▲ Nuri Daycare Center (Sindaebang-dong 686-78). These are places requiring signal and speeding enforcement, such as sloped sections and elementary school main gates.

The district plans to receive public comments on the administrative notice for the installation of unmanned traffic enforcement devices in school zones until June 5. Following this, construction will proceed to install two speed enforcement cameras and one combined signal and speed enforcement camera to safely protect residents from traffic accident risks.

Individuals or organizations with opinions on the administrative notice can download the opinion submission form from the district’s website notice board and submit it in writing, by mail, or fax to the Dongjak-gu Office Traffic Administration Division. For detailed inquiries, please contact the Traffic Administration Division of Dongjak-gu Office.

Additionally, the district is conducting various projects to prevent traffic accidents within school zones and create a safe traffic environment.

Last year, LED floor signals were installed at 32 crosswalks equipped with pedestrian traffic lights within school zones. In the first half of this year, the district will expand ‘visibility-enhancing traffic safety facilities’ to 10 locations, including ▲ yellow protective fences, ▲ yellow crosswalks, and ▲ runway-style crosswalks.

Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, stated, “The installation of these unmanned traffic enforcement devices will help raise drivers’ awareness of traffic safety when entering school zones. We will continue to make efforts to prevent child traffic accidents and create safe routes for children to and from school.”
