Gurye Maechon Library Selected for 'Humanities on the Road' 10 Years in a Row

Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it has been selected for the 2024 "Humanities on the Road" and "Wisdom School" public contest projects hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Arts Council Korea, receiving a total support of 20 million KRW.

This public contest project operates various contents such as local history, culture, and arts at cultural infrastructure facilities (libraries, museums, etc.) close to the daily lives of citizens to spread humanities values.

This year, out of 1,188 cultural infrastructure facilities nationwide that applied, a total of 700 were selected: 508 for "Humanities on the Road" and 192 for "Wisdom School."

The Gurye Maechun Library applied for the "Humanities on the Road" project with the theme "Geographical Humanities Gazetteer of Jirisan Written on the Road," and for the Wisdom School project with the theme "Saving the Jirisan Garden in My Heart," and was selected for both.

"Geographical Humanities Gazetteer of Jirisan Written on the Road" connects various local characteristics and place identities such as Gurye village history, the Yeo-Soon Incident, mountain villages, and abandoned temples.

Lectures and explorations by local experts including Moon Su-hyun, Lim Hyun-soo, and Shin Kang will be provided to residents over a total of 10 sessions.

"Saving the Jirisan Garden in My Heart" is a program that interprets life objectively and humanistically through Jirisan garden plants as a medium, conducted over 12 sessions targeting middle-aged and older adults.

The recruitment period for program participants is 7 days from May 29 to June 5, with 20 participants recruited for each program.

The Gurye Maechun Library received the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award in 2020 as an excellent library operating "Humanities on the Road," and has been selected as an operating institution for "Humanities on the Road" for 10 consecutive years since 2015 by planning new and diverse humanities programs every year.
