Governor Kim attended the rice planting event held in Yeondae-ri, Ganam-eup, Yeoju, and said, "Rural areas are facing many difficulties, such as a decrease in per capita rice consumption," and introduced, "Gyeonggi Province will implement the Farmers' Opportunity Income program for the first time this year."
He continued, "We will strive to supply a large amount of excellent Gyeonggi rice," and promised, "Rural areas are the root and source of my life. I will do my best for the development of farmers."
The Gyeonggi rice production fields in Yeondae-ri, Ganam-eup, where the event was held, cover an area of 230,000㎡ (23ha), with 32 farms cultivating premium rice and other varieties.
About 70 people, including Governor Kim, Lee Chung-woo, Mayor of Yeoju, Jeong Byeong-gwan, Chairman of Yeoju City Council, Jang Dae-seok, Provincial Assembly member, Bang Seong-hwan, Provincial Assembly member, Seo Gwang-beom, Provincial Assembly member, Kim Gyu-chang, Provincial Assembly member, Lee O-su, Provincial Assembly member, and farmers, participated in the event.

Gyeonggi Province will provide the ‘Farmers' Opportunity Income’ starting in October to respond to the risk of rural and fishing village extinction and to improve the quality of life for farmers and fishermen. The program will pay 150,000 KRW per month, totaling 1.8 million KRW annually, to young farmers and fishermen (under 50 years old), returnee farmers and fishermen (within the last 5 years), and environmentally friendly farmers and fishermen (organic, animal welfare, premium).
