Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei declared a five-day mourning period on the 20th (local time) to commemorate the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. President Raisi died when a helicopter carrying him and the foreign minister crashed in a mountainous area the previous day.
According to AFP, Khamenei stated, "I declare a five-day public mourning period and express my condolences to the beloved Iranian people."

According to Iranian media, on the 19th, a helicopter carrying President Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and seven others crashed in the mountainous village of "Tabil," about 100 km from Tabriz, the capital of East Azerbaijan Province, killing all on board.
