Former President Moon Jae-in published the memoir titled From the Margins to the Center: Diplomacy and Security Edition on the 17th, marking the second anniversary of his departure from office. It contains reflections and behind-the-scenes stories about the three inter-Korean summits and 58 diplomatic trips during his five-year tenure from May 2017 to May 2022. In particular, regarding his meetings with Kim Jong-un, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea, he wrote, “He said he also has a daughter and does not want even the daughter’s generation to live with a nuclear weapon over their heads. He earnestly explained his commitment to denuclearization in his own way.”
In response, Na Kyung-won, a newly elected member, wrote on Facebook, “I sighed deeply,” and pointed out, “Former President Moon still seems unable to escape the limitations of being ‘Kim Jong-un’s spokesperson.’ He continues to defend North Korea’s typical sophistry that rationalizes nuclear development.” She also harshly criticized, “A leader’s naivety is serious incompetence and a major risk to the nation.”

She added, “What Kim Jong-un calls ‘security guarantees’ is nothing more than thoroughly protecting the Kim family and the dictatorship’s survival. Therefore, the ‘end of war’ that Kim Jong-un proposes ultimately means the withdrawal of U.S. troops from South Korea,” and criticized, “The idea of making North Korea give up its nuclear weapons by meeting its demands is an illusion.” She urged, “The correct and proper North Korea policy is to make them realize that threatening with nuclear weapons will gain nothing and will ultimately lose everything. The Democratic Party must overcome former President Moon Jae-in’s North Korea stance.”

It is truly shocking that such a person was the president of the Republic of Korea, or rather ‘the South.’” He described the situation as “truly a case where ‘a boiled idiot would laugh out loud.’”
Assemblyman Cho Hae-jin also criticized, saying, “We can see how precariously the fate of the Korean Peninsula was walking a tightrope in the hands of problematic leaders on both sides during the last administration,” calling it “a dreamer-like out-of-body rhetoric.” He pointed out, “It is absurd to introduce a conversation that sounds like the main culprit of the Yeonpyeong Island shelling wants to visit Yeonpyeong Island to console the victims,” and said, “Giving a disease and then medicine at this level is bizarre.” He also condemned, “Introducing Kim Jong-un, who killed his political patron uncle by shooting him with an anti-aircraft gun, as a ‘polite leader’ raises doubts about the introducer’s judgment, consciousness, and thought process.”
