Korail Joint Crackdown on Fare Evasion in Seoul Metropolitan Subway from 20th to 24th
Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) announced on the 17th that it will conduct crackdowns on fare evasion in the metropolitan subway from the 20th to the 24th to establish a proper train usage culture.
This crackdown will be jointly carried out by 13 metropolitan urban railway operators, including KORAIL, Seoul Metro, and Airport Railroad.
Common types of fare evasion include "unauthorized boarding," where passengers pass through the ticket gate without a ticket, and "fraudulent use of tickets," where individuals use discounted or free tickets without being eligible. In such cases, passengers must pay the one-way fare for the traveled section plus an additional surcharge of 30 times that fare.

The "Climate Companion Card," an unlimited public transportation pass introduced by Seoul City this year, is only valid at stations within Seoul on KORAIL-operated lines. If passengers alight at stations where the card is not accepted, they must pay the full fare from the initial boarding station to the alighting station. Passing through the ticket gate without paying the fare will result in a surcharge of 30 times the fare.
