Attending Public Event After Two Months Wearing See-Through Clothes
Growing Long Hair Also Shocking in North Korea
Kim Ju-ae, daughter of North Korean State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong-un, has appeared in public for the first time in over two months, drawing attention to the outfit she wore. On the 16th, Radio Free Asia (RFA), a North Korea-focused media outlet, reported that Kim Ju-ae attended the completion ceremony of the newly established 'Jeonwi Street' north of Pyongyang on the 14th, alongside her father, Chairman Kim Jong-un.
A new street called 'Jeonwi Street' has been completed north of Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea, and an inauguration ceremony was held on the 14th attended by Chairman Kim Jong-un and his daughter Ju-ae, Chosun Central TV reported on the 15th.

North Korean state media also reported the news, referring to Kim Ju-ae as the "beloved daughter." Notably, Kim Ju-ae appeared at the event wearing a 'see-through' outfit with sheer sleeves, attracting attention. In conservative North Korea, it is rare for a young girl to wear revealing clothing. Additionally, Kim Ju-ae growing her hair long is considered a groundbreaking act in North Korea. Although her exact age is not known, North Korea experts estimate that she is around 14 to 15 years old this year.
Jung Sung-jang, head of the Korea Strategy Center at the Sejong Institute, told RFA in an interview, "Rather than being a look orchestrated by North Korean authorities, it appears to be a style freely chosen as a member of the Paektu bloodline." He added, "Ri Sol-ju and Kim Ju-ae are people who can be free from previous restrictions. These changes are shocking North Korean residents and women, bringing about changes in fashion within North Korea."
Luxury Clothes and Long Hair, Kim Ju-ae's 'Legacy Fashion'
Earlier, Kim Juae attracted attention by appearing several times at official events wearing luxury clothes. Regarding this, stylist Lauren Rothman referred to Kim Juae's attire as "legacy fashion" in an interview with RFA last February.

Previously, Kim Ju-ae attracted attention by appearing at official events wearing luxury clothing several times. Lauren Rothman, a stylist, referred to Kim Ju-ae's attire as 'legacy fashion' in an interview with RFA last February. 'Legacy' means inheritance in English, which can be interpreted as succession of power. Rothman said in the interview with RFA, "In the process where the girl wearing a white padded winter jacket transitions to wearing a dark-colored jacket or coat, we can identify aspects that can be called 'legacy fashion.' Through fashion, we can also see how Kim Ju-ae is expressing her power."
On the other hand, Tae Yong-ho, a member of the People Power Party and former North Korean diplomat, commented last year when Kim Ju-ae's luxury coat became a topic of discussion, saying, "North Korean residents do not know it is luxury." He added, "Rather, North Korean residents and children of Kim Ju-ae's age would pay much more attention to her hair than to the coat." In a media interview at the time, Tae said, "In North Korea, it is strictly defined how boys should wear their hair in elementary, middle, and high school, and how many centimeters girls can grow their hair. But (Kim Ju-ae) has grown her hair long like that. The moment I saw that, I wondered how teachers would instruct students about this starting tomorrow."
He continued, "If someone asks, 'Teacher, Kim Jong-un, the supreme leader's daughter, grows her hair long and flowing like that. Can we do the same?' how would the teacher explain this? There would be tremendous internal confusion, such as 'Kim Jong-un's daughter can do it, but we cannot.'"
