The city of Busan will sign a business agreement with the Korea Veterans Welfare and Healthcare Corporation for the 'Housing Environment Improvement Project for National Meritorious Persons' at 11 a.m. on the 17th in the International Protocol Room at City Hall.
The signing ceremony will be attended by Mayor Park Hyungjoon and Shin Hyunseok, Executive Director of the Korea Veterans Welfare and Healthcare Corporation.
The corporation has been implementing the Housing Environment Improvement Project for National Meritorious Persons since 2009.
This agreement has been prepared to establish a cooperative system for the smooth progress of the project, including the identification of eligible recipients in the Busan area and the strengthening of recognition activities for the improvement of housing environments for national meritorious persons.
Through this agreement, the city will actively cooperate in the smooth implementation of the project by identifying low-income households of national meritorious persons in need of housing environment improvement, while the corporation will make every effort to ensure that national meritorious persons in Busan benefit from the project. In addition, both parties will seek various activities and development plans, such as supporting the restoration of housing damage for national meritorious persons and local residents in the event of an emergency disaster.
The 'Housing Environment Improvement Project for National Meritorious Persons' is a project that supports the improvement of poor housing conditions for national meritorious persons and their bereaved families who have contributed to the country.
Over the past 15 years until last year, the project has been carried out for 6,899 households nationwide and 593 households in Busan. This year, a total of 480 households will be selected and supported nationwide.
In Busan, there are about 59,000 national meritorious persons, including descendants of independence patriots and war veterans. In response to changing policy environments such as the aging of national meritorious persons, the city continues to promote related projects, including expanding support for honor allowances for veterans, establishing priority parking zones for national meritorious persons, and strengthening support for the National Meritorious Persons Promotion Group.
Mayor Park Hyungjoon said, "The 'Housing Environment Improvement Project for National Meritorious Persons' is a realization of warm welfare for the honorable lives of national meritorious persons and their families who have dedicated themselves to the country," and added, "The city will continue to communicate and cooperate closely with the Korea Veterans Welfare and Healthcare Corporation to establish a culture of respect and recognition for national meritorious persons."
