Yeosu City Uses Big Data to Prevent Population Outflow
Support for Population Policy Based on Scientific Administration
Selected for Regional Data Analysis Contest Project
Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that it will undertake precise analysis of the causes of population decline and establish customized policies using big data.
This follows the recent selection in the “Customized Regional Data Analysis Project for Local Governments” conducted by the Korea Local Information Research & Development Institute.
The city plans to analyze population characteristics by utilizing related data such as the daytime population between regional economies, population movement, and income disparity.
In particular, through analysis of ▲inbound and outbound migration over the past three years, ▲economic characteristics of single-person households, ▲metropolitan-level economically active population statistics, and ▲daytime population living in the city both from inside and outside the jurisdiction, the city intends to prepare population decline prevention measures based on scientific administration.
Along with this, by building income-based data on inbound and outbound populations between regions such as Suncheon and Gwangyang, it is expected to identify the “causes of interregional population movement” and the “impact of economic factors on population migration.”
Additionally, by utilizing population information data for population trend forecasting, daytime population analysis, and franchise location analysis, the city anticipates encouraging companies to enter Yeosu through the opening of public data and expects an effect of population inflow.
