Gwanak-gu Takes Active Measures to Prevent Serious Accidents in Small Businesses
May 14 Small Business Owners and 200 Related Personnel Attend Serious Accident Punishment Act Briefing... Minimizing On-Site Confusion and Strengthening Safety Management Capabilities Due to Expanded Application of Serious Accident Punishment Act
Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Jun-hee) held a 'Serious Accident Punishment Act Briefing Session for Small-scale Businesses' at the Gwanak-gu Office on the 14th.
Since the Serious Accident Punishment Act has been expanded to include small-scale businesses starting January 27 this year, the district organized this briefing session to minimize confusion among the applicable businesses and to strengthen safety management capabilities.
The briefing session was successfully held with about 200 business owners and related personnel from small-scale businesses with 5 to fewer than 50 employees in the area attending.
The main topics included ▲ an overview and case law of the Serious Accident Punishment Act ▲ methods for establishing safety and health management systems ▲ guidance on customized government support projects such as the Industrial Safety Diagnosis. Expert instructors from the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency provided easy-to-understand explanations to the attendees.
The 'Industrial Safety Diagnosis' is a customized support project by the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency that helps small and medium-sized businesses with fewer than 50 employees conduct self-assessments on the establishment and implementation of safety and health management systems to prevent serious accidents and comply with the Serious Accident Punishment Act.
Additionally, at the end of the briefing session, the district provided guidance on applying for 'Risk Assessment Consulting for Establishing Safety and Health Systems,' linked with the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency’s projects, targeting business owners in need.
A business owner, Mr. A, who attended the briefing said, “Although I knew about the existence of the Serious Accident Punishment Act, it was difficult to understand the details, but after listening to this explanation, things seem much clearer.”
