Gyeonggi-do Inspects Disaster Recovery Sites Ahead of Rainy Season... 13 Locations in 6 Cities and Counties
Gyeonggi Province will conduct a joint inspection from the 20th to the 24th of this month to prepare for the summer rainy season, focusing on the safety management status of disaster recovery sites, evacuation plans for human lives, and early implementation measures.
Earlier, starting from the 27th of last month, the province conducted self-inspections at 24 disaster recovery sites across the cities and counties within the province.
During this joint on-site inspection period, Gyeonggi Province will focus on 13 disaster recovery sites in 6 cities and counties, including Namyangju, which require province-level verification checks. The inspection will cover ▲ preventive measures for vulnerable areas against the rainy season and on-site safety management status ▲ establishment of facilities to prevent human casualties and resident evacuation plans ▲ early implementation measures for recovery projects ▲ establishment of emergency contact networks and emergency work systems between construction sites and implementing agencies ▲ securing emergency recovery flood control materials and equipment ▲ inspection of completion status of major processes to prevent secondary damage before the rainy season.
Gyeonggi Province prioritizes completing construction before the rainy season for small to medium-sized disaster recovery projects. For projects where completion before the rainy season is physically impossible due to land compensation and other factors, intensive deployment of equipment and manpower will be focused on vulnerable sections to finish the processes.
Furthermore, urgent or minor issues identified during the joint inspection will be addressed immediately on-site, and matters requiring follow-up actions such as repairs and reinforcements will be notified to the respective cities and counties to ensure completion before the rainy season.

Kim Neungsik, Director of the Safety Management Office of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Considering the recent incident on the 5th at a highway construction site in Daeyang-myeon, Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam, where a temporary road blocking the river flow caused insufficient water discharge and river flooding due to floating debris, resulting in flooding of about 40 households, we plan to conduct focused inspections to prevent such accidents from occurring."
