Planting 3 Tree Species, 6 Shrub Species, and 18 Wildflower Species in a 500㎡ Area
Creating a Festive Atmosphere with Charming Flower Paths and Hanging Flower Pots on the Way to the Expo
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) has created the ‘Gwangjin Charm Garden’ and ‘Charm Flower Road’ around Ttukseom Hangang Park at the Gwangjin Culture and Arts Center (76 Neungdong-ro).
The Charm Garden and Charm Flower Road were developed in connection with the ‘2024 Seoul International Garden Expo’ held at Ttukseom Hangang Park. The Seoul International Garden Expo opens on May 16 and runs through the 22nd. Co-hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul International Garden Expo Organizing Committee, the event features a variety of garden culture programs including garden works, exhibitions, and industry fairs under the theme ‘Life with Gardens in Seoul.’
To enrich the garden expo, the district created the ‘Gwangjin Charm Garden’ in the plaza in front of the Gwangjin Culture and Arts Center. The Charm Garden is designed as a sanctuary for residents to heal their tired bodies and minds away from busy daily life, with various types of gardens allowing visitors to enjoy flowers throughout all four seasons. Covering an area of 500㎡, it is planted with three types of trees including Blue Arrow and Tricolor Willow, six types of flowering shrubs such as Hydrangea and Snowball Bush, and 18 species of wildflowers rarely seen in the city like Goat’s Beard, Ptilotus, and Columbine.
Additionally, the main route to the garden expo venue was newly landscaped as the ‘Charm Flower Road.’ Along Neungdong-ro, from Konkuk University Station to Ttukseom Entrance, 19 types of flowering shrubs including Hydrangea quercifolia, 8 types of evergreen shrubs such as Blue Angel, and 46 types of herbaceous plants like Ptilotus and Paper Flower were planted.
Furthermore, 335 hanging flower pots containing 9 species including Coral Reef were displayed around Ttukseom Entrance, Byeokcheon Entrance, and Ttukseom-ro, all connected to the event site, showcasing their full charm. Event spaces such as Giant Flower and Rope Flower Beds were also prepared for families and couples to create lasting memories.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “I hope the Gwangjin Charm Garden becomes an urban oasis where all residents can comfortably rest. We will also strive to maintain the gardens and flower roads created to ensure the successful completion of the Seoul International Garden Expo. Moreover, we will widely promote the charm of Gwangjin-gu to become a charming garden city where both citizens and residents are happy.”
