Kim Igang, Gwangju Seo-gu Mayor, Visits 5·18 Memorial with Officials... Inheriting the Spirit of May
"The spirit of sharing and solidarity in May, 'Good City Seogu,' will continue."
Seogu District of Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Ikang) visited the National May 18th Democratic Cemetery on the 13th, ahead of the 44th anniversary of the May 18th Democratic Movement, with about 100 people including senior officials and public servants born in the 1980s.
They then visited the graves of Martyrs Yoon Sang-won and Park Kwan-hyun to honor the spirits of the May heroes.

In particular, employees born after the May 18th Democratic Movement participated in the memorial schedule, reflecting on the history of May and forming a historical consensus across generations.
Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seogu, said, "The justice of Gwangju citizens and the spirit of sharing and solidarity of the merchants in Yangdong Market, who made the May 18th rice balls, have become today's spirit of Gwangju," adding, "'Good City Seogu' must realize citizens' daily obligations and remember, inherit, and develop the spirit of May."
Meanwhile, on the 14th, Seogu plans to hold a 'May Rice Ball Reenactment, Experience, and Sharing' event at Yangdong Traditional Market, Historic Site No. 19 of May 18th, attended by merchants who made rice balls for the citizen army during May 18th, May mothers, and residents.
Also, from the 13th to the 19th, a May 18th commemorative exhibition titled "Everyone's May, United May" will be held on the first floor of Seogu District Office.
