Naver Union Opposes Sale of Line Yahoo Shares... Protecting Members and Technology is Top Priority
The Naver Labor Union has clearly expressed its opposition to the sale of Line Yahoo shares. They explained that protecting Line affiliates and the technology and know-how they have accumulated is the top priority.
In a joint statement released on the 13th, the Naver union stated, "The best choice to protect Line members is not to sell the shares."
The union judged that the sale of shares means more than Naver giving up its position as the major shareholder of A Holdings (the major shareholder of Line Yahoo). It means the possibility that the efforts, technology, and experience of the members who have worked hard for Line to be recognized in the global market could be transferred to the Japanese company SoftBank, and that the members could face job insecurity.
In fact, more than 300 employees who participated in an online meeting hosted by the joint statement on the 10th also expressed anxiety about the future of the service and its members.
The union emphasized, "The outflow of talent from Line members who feel anxious due to the sale will lead to a decline in the quality of the service," and "The best choice to protect the members is not to sell."

They also demanded active response from the Korean government.
