2 Dead After Electric Car Hits Tree in Sacheon... Claims of Sudden Acceleration

At around 3:36 PM on the 12th, an electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) driven by a man in his 60s crashed into a stone retaining wall at a temple in Baekcheon-dong, Sacheon-si, Gyeongnam, resulting in the deaths of two people.
According to the Sacheon Police Station on the 13th, the vehicle departed from the temple parking lot and drove about 50 meters uphill before striking the stone retaining wall.
As a result of the accident, a male passenger in his 50s and a female passenger in her 60s were transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest but ultimately passed away.
The driver, Mr. A, and another female passenger in her 70s sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the hospital.
At the time of the accident, it was confirmed that Mr. A was neither unlicensed nor under the influence of alcohol.
The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident based on the driver’s statement that the vehicle suddenly accelerated upon starting the engine and witness accounts.
