DL E&C Ships First U.S. Plant Project Module to Texas
DL E&C announced on the 10th that it is transporting plant modules to be installed at the 'Golden Triangle Polymers' petrochemical plant in the United States from Vietnam to Texas. The plant modules currently in transit total 18 units, weighing 4,264 tons, and are scheduled to be installed at the site in Orange County, Texas, after approximately two months of sailing.
The Golden Triangle Polymers project was commissioned by Golden Triangle Polymers, a joint venture between Chevron Phillips Chemical in the United States and Qatar Energy. This is DL E&C's first petrochemical plant project in the U.S. It is a project to build a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plant with an annual processing capacity of 2 million tons, and DL E&C began construction in March last year. DL E&C is carrying out the project jointly with the U.S. construction company Zachry Industrial, and the current progress rate is about 45%. The completion is targeted for 2026.
DL E&C is responsible for the design and procurement of major equipment for this project. In particular, it is providing optimal solutions by introducing plant module construction methods using Building Information Modeling (BIM) 3D technology. The modular construction method divides complex plants into transportable sizes, fabricates them in separate production spaces, and then installs them on-site. This method is effective in shortening construction time, improving quality, and preventing safety accidents.
The plant modules currently en route to the U.S. were manufactured over approximately 11 months in Trung Quat, central Vietnam, and include not only steel structures and piping but also completed lighting equipment and cable installations. DL E&C expects that by utilizing the modular construction method, it can prevent safety accidents caused by high-altitude work on-site and reduce the workforce by more than 25% compared to conventional on-site construction, thereby preventing cost increases due to high labor costs.
