Gmarket and Auction's year-round largest shopping event, 'Big Smile Day,' is gaining popularity among overseas customers as well.
Gmarket announced on the 10th that through the ongoing 'MegaG' promotion targeting foreigners residing both domestically and abroad, the transaction amount in the direct overseas purchase mall doubled (97% increase) compared to usual over two days since the 7th. The MegaG promotion is the overseas version of Big Smile Day and runs from the 7th to the 20th of this month.

View original imageThe MegaG promotion is the largest year-round direct overseas purchase promotion offering Big Smile Day-level discounts to boost overseas sales of popular K-products. Gmarket Global Shop provides services in English and Chinese. It offers a 15% coupon discount up to 150,000 KRW and sells popular K-products at discounts of up to 70%.
During the MegaG promotion period, visitors to Gmarket Global Shop increased by 40% compared to usual, and the average purchase amount per person rose by 50%. Beauty and fashion products were the representative popular items, along with domestic childbirth and childcare products such as baby mats and kitchen appliances like Cuckoo rice cookers gaining popularity.
Mongolia's largest e-commerce platform, 'Shoppy,' has also been running the Gmarket Mega Sale since the 8th. In February, Gmarket signed a business agreement with Shoppy to promote the listing of Gmarket products on Shoppy and to activate exchanges between the two companies. This Mega Sale is the first large-scale discount event since the agreement and the first case of holding a Big Smile Day-level event through collaboration with an overseas platform.
In Shoppy's Gmarket Mega Sale, about 630 domestic sellers are participating in the discount event, showcasing approximately 16,500 products to Mongolian customers. Shoppy has also provided marketing support through social networking services (SNS) and video advertisements within Mongolia. As a result, on the first day of the event, the 8th, transaction volume increased about fourfold (270%) compared to usual.
Meanwhile, this MegaG promotion exposes K-seller products supported by Gmarket in collaboration with the Small and Medium Business Corporation to overseas customers. Gmarket expects this to help small and medium enterprises open new sales channels. To assist domestic sellers' overseas expansion and strengthen direct overseas purchase capabilities, Gmarket plans to continue holding large-scale discount events at the level of Big Smile Day.
