Check Your Firearm Possession Permit on Mobile... Agreement with Naver
The National Police Agency announced on the 10th that it will operate the ‘Mobile Firearm Possession Permit’ service in cooperation with Naver, allowing users to verify firearm possession permits via mobile devices.
Under current law, a permit is required to possess firearms, knives, spray devices, electronic shock devices, etc., and a plastic card-type possession permit must be issued by the police station. Accordingly, the permit must always be carried when possessing firearms, and there have been inconveniences such as having to visit in person and waiting periods for reissuance.
From now on, this service will enable quick verification of permits via mobile devices.
The target users are approximately 500,000 individuals, including those permitted to possess firearms, knives, spray devices, electronic shock devices, crossbows, and those licensed for explosives management and manufacturing responsibility. To receive a mobile permit, users must register on the National Police Agency’s Firearms and Explosives Safety Management System (www.knpgun.go.kr) and then complete identity verification through the certification service within the Naver app.
The mobile permit service requires identity verification each time it is checked to retrieve permit information. If the permit has expired or been canceled, it cannot be used, preventing proxy use and forgery. It is also expected to help reduce the burden of carrying permits and concerns about loss for permit holders.
