Pukyong National University Student Wins 'Best Student Paper Award' at This Year's ISRS International Conference
Environmental Engineering Major Shim Juhyun Receives Best Student Paper Award
Dr. Joo-Hyun Shim, a doctoral student majoring in Environmental Engineering at Pukyong National University (President Young-Soo Jang), received the Best Student Paper Award at the 2024 ISRS International Conference.
At the recent conference held in Taichung, Taiwan, doctoral student Joo-Hyun Shim presented a paper titled "Innovative Fog Prediction and Monitoring Through Image-Driven Atmospheric Parameters," earning the Best Student Paper Award.
In this study, he explained a method to derive atmospheric parameters from images captured by a regular camera and described the changes observed when fog occurs, receiving excellent evaluations.
Notably, the research was recognized for its significance in demonstrating that visibility distance, which is typically obtained using conventional visibility measurement equipment, can be measured using only ordinary images, and fog occurrence can be detected.
Professor Young-Min Noh, Shim’s advisor, stated, “It seems that meaningful achievements have been recognized through continuous applied research utilizing cameras for atmospheric environment analysis. We expect to lead the development of new analytical methods for air quality management through ongoing atmospheric environment research based on remote sensing technology.”
