Jeju Fire Department Assigns Location Numbers to 'Water Rescue Equipment Boxes'
The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Fire Safety Headquarters (Chief Go Min-ja) announced on the 8th that, ahead of the summer water play season, they have assigned location numbers to the ‘Water Rescue Equipment Boxes’ to enable quicker identification of the location of rescue targets in water-related accidents since the 2nd.
Jeju Fire Department plans to utilize the location numbers assigned to the Water Rescue Equipment Boxes (equipped with life jackets, lifebuoys, and rescue ropes) installed at 107 high-risk water play accident sites such as major ports and harbors in the province, to quickly confirm location information during 119 emergency calls, addressing the difficulty in identifying the caller’s location due to the nature of water accidents.
The location numbers are attached in the format ‘Jeju-1~42, Seogwi-1~18, Seobu-1~21, Dongbu 1-26’ on yellow reflective strips at the top exterior of each Water Rescue Equipment Box, and the location information (latitude and longitude) has been registered in the 119 Integrated Situation Room’s Geographic Information System.
In the event of a water accident near a Water Rescue Equipment Box, if the caller provides the location number during the 119 call, the 119 Integrated Situation Room can quickly and accurately confirm the exact location through the pre-registered location information in the Geographic Information System.
Jeju Fire Department expects that by assigning location numbers to the Water Rescue Equipment Boxes, they will be able to secure the golden time by more rapidly identifying and responding to the location of accident victims during water accidents.
Additionally, since last month, to prepare for lost-person accidents during the gosari (bracken) harvesting season, location numbers have also been assigned to 23 lost-person caution signs and 50 119 first aid boxes installed in major lost-person accident risk areas such as Gotjawal and Oreum in the province to ensure prompt on-site response.
The lost-person caution signs were installed to warn about the risk of getting lost during gosari harvesting, and the location numbers are attached at the top of the signs in the format ‘Guide Sign-1~23’.
The 119 first aid boxes are placed in areas prone to safety accidents such as Olle trails and Oreum, and are stocked with emergency treatment supplies such as splints, bandages, gauze, and adhesive bandages.
The location numbers are attached at the top of the first aid boxes in the format ‘First Aid Box-1~50’.
Go Min-ja, Chief of Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters, said, “In order to quickly rescue residents in emergency situations such as water accidents and lost-person incidents, initial response through accurate location identification is of utmost importance,” adding, “We will continue to establish various accident response systems to do our best to prevent human casualties.”
