When Is May the Hardest? ... Divorced Men Say "Children's Day," Divorced Women Say "Eobeoinal"
Men choose 'Children's Day', women choose 'Parents' Day'
In Family Month, men feel deprivation, women feel freedom
Divorced singles (returned singles) reported that Children's Day and Parents' Day in May, the month of family, are more painful than Couples' Day, according to a survey.
On the 8th, remarriage information company OnlyU, in collaboration with marriage information company Bienarae, conducted a survey from April 27 to May 3 targeting 556 remarriage hopeful divorced singles nationwide (278 men and 278 women) via email and phone on the question, "As a divorced single, which day in the month of family is the most painful?" The results showed that 'Children's Day' and 'Parents' Day' were most frequently chosen. However, men relatively more often chose 'Children's Day' (men 41.4%, women 38.0%), while women more often chose 'Parents' Day' (men 35.9%, women 40.0%). Other days such as 'Couples' Day' (men 17.3%, women 15.5%) and 'Coming-of-Age Day' (men 5.4%, women 6.5%) ranked third and fourth, respectively.
Lee Kyung, General Manager of Bienarae, explained, "After divorce, children mostly have a closer relationship with their mother, so men feel a sense of alienation on Children's Day," adding, "On Parents' Day, children take care of their parents, and mothers feel sorry for having created a broken family for their children."
Regarding the question, "After divorcing your ex-spouse, what thought is strongest during the month of family?" 34.2% of male respondents answered 'deprivation,' while 37.1% of female respondents answered 'freedom,' showing contrasting results. Following that, men answered 'future planning' (28.4%), 'reflection on past married life' (21.2%), and 'freedom' (16.2%). Women answered 'future planning' (27.0%), 'deprivation' (21.5%), and 'reflection on past married life' (14.4%) in that order.
